The West Woods by Suzy Vadori is a continuing saga of The Fountain Book series. In this coming of age story, Courtney Wallis, a Junior at St Augustus boarding school tries everything she can to get out of going to the school for another year. Her father, although sympathetic to her cause, challenges her to find out all that the school has to offer, hinting that there is more to the place than meets the eye. Courtney resigns herself to another year at the school and vows to find out the secret behind the West Woods. When Courtney hears about the legend of the fountain through a teacher, she enlists her friend Margaret to help her find it. Once found, she makes a wish she is sure to regret. A wish that places her under an uncontrollable spell.
The West Woods is the second book in the series, but is easily a stand-alone story. I had no trouble following the storyline at all. Suzi Vadori weaves a brilliant tale of teenage deception and greed. What started out as a mere wish, turned into more than Courtney had bargained for. With wishes and seances, spying and bribery, the book easily left me under a spell of my own. Although I am saddened that Courtney got away with much of her antics, I am pleased to announce that the story does end with a moral. Without a doubt … be careful what you wish for. Great job Suzi for a spellbinding adventure. Looking forward to the next installment in this series.
